It’s been too long since we trimmed Penelope’s nails. Today was the day. The first few toe nails were effortless. Penelope was distracted enough with the light Jenn was using to illuminate her tiny toes I was able to work unhindered. She was on to our tricks though and the wiggling started. Then the removal of the foot I was working on. Before I knew it I was concerned about every clip. I’ve cut my dog’s nails too short and it’s a painful thing. I can’t imagine doing it to Penelope. So we resorted to more distraction.

Last night was the closest we’ve come to interrupting Penelope’s sleep. I checked the monitor to find this…
Rough weekend. For me, not Penelope. She had a great time.
Wednesday night I started feeling ill. Sinus problems have plagued me since childhood, and the move to Atlanta, away from the cleansing Gulf Breeze air, has caused Jenn and I annual sinus ailments. Thursday I couldn’t talk, Friday afternoon I started to feel a bit better, Saturday I ached all over, and today started in misery but ended with mild congestion. Which means I missed this:
Penelope and I have a scheduling conflict. I go to work at 6:45 and she gets up after 7:30. I get home after 5 and she goes to bed around 8. I’ve been missing my baby since I started back in the office.
Not Penelope of course. I went back to work today. On Monday’s I work from home, a perfect transition from nearly a month off. Thanks to the terrific team I work with I was able to get back into the groove quickly, taking care of administrative work and clearing out emails. IM windows multiplied exponentially at the bottom of my screen, wishing me a happy (belated) father’s day and asking how my trip was. It may be the first time I was thrilled to answer them all.
