Starting and maintaining Belonging Together has been a pleasure. I got a down and dirty education on self hosting a WordPress site. I disciplined myself to write daily. And I discovered many fine blogs and adoption sites (see links on the homepage) in the process of educating myself on adoption and China.
Before I step away I wanted to give a quick update. It seems cruel and unusual to leave a morose final post.
Our current stable of pets are doing well. Lila made a miraculous recovery with the assistance of constant B vitamin shots and daily Prednisolone pills. Though Speaker may never again sit at our bedroom door to cry for his daily bread Lila has taken up the standard, nightly planting herself at Speaker’s old post and begging for a few more morsels of cat food. I’m thankful for every one of those cries.
Penelope’s interest in Chinese is getting legs. Our decision to move from Little Busy Bee to ACCA’s class at Emory University was a good one. Last week she asked the teacher how to say “Chocolate milk” in Chinese. At home she grabs the dry erase markers and draws and says “I’m writing Chinese now” or declares that she’s going to teach momma Chinese.
Two years of Jenn and Penelope staying home together ended this summer when pre-school started. Until recently Jenn and I were adamant about how we would home school. Somehow the idea lost its luster and we decided to follow the Montessori method. After visiting several schools and watching Penelope interact with students and guides (don’t call em’ teachers!) I understood the appeal. It’s been an intermittent struggle, with either Jenn or Penelope sad from separation from the other. As each day passes the new routine overtakes the old and the adjustment becomes the norm.
Thank you for reading. It’s been a pleasure.
Goodnight.
