Remember the end of the first Matrix film? Neo “dies” and is “reborn”. The world is different. He sees the code, the reality of the Matrix. “There is no spoon”. Or Kung Fu Panda. Po has the Dragon Scroll, the secret to unlimited power! He unfolds it to discover his reflection. After a beat down from Tai Lung he realizes the secret contained within the scroll; the power is inside him. Neo and Po both had moments of self-realization after intense struggle. The struggle awakened a source of power, and ultimately, victory.

Thirteen Years
Everything I’ve attempted to write about this day hasn’t felt right. Like trying to write about a person. No matter how many words you throw out there you need more. Encapsulating thirteen years of marriage into one conversation, one song, or one blog post isn’t possible. So I’m not going to try.
Weekend Update 9/23/2012
We’re getting so much advice and reading so much about parenting that I could barely remember where we heard this. Finally it came to me; Discovery Academy’s “Positive Discipline”. The guide mentioned it at the end of the evening. Prepare your child. Tell them what is coming when possible. And that’s what we did.

I look forward to coming home. Everyday.
Some parents may explain this by saying I haven’t been at this parenthood thing long enough. Some act as though they can’t wait to be away from their children. I can’t imagine feeling that way.

Why Blog?
I’ve blogged occasionally for several years. An interest would grab me and I’d write about it. The most frequent and long standing of my blogs chronicled my quest to learn Mandarin. I expected the blog to continue indefinitely. I would stop studying for months at a time, giving me nothing to write about. When we started the process to bring Penelope home, naturally I started a blog. Unfortunately I rarely updated it.
